When it comes to doing laundry, most people focus on the clothes, not the machine. But your washer plays a huge role in how fresh, clean, and long-lasting your laundry turns out. Over time, detergent residue, fabric softener, and even dirt from clothing can build up inside your washer. This buildup not only affects your machine’s performance — it can also leave your laundry smelling less than fresh.
At Willard Wash Laundromat, we deep clean our commercial washers multiple times per week to make sure every load gets the best possible wash. And if you’re doing laundry at home, it’s just as important to keep your washer clean.
Residue buildup: Leftover detergent, fabric softener, and minerals from hard water can coat the inside of your washer drum.
Odor control: Moisture combined with residue is the perfect environment for mildew and bacteria.
Better performance: A clean washer works more efficiently, uses less energy, and extends the life of the machine.
Cleaner laundry: Without buildup, your clothes come out smelling fresh and looking their best.
We recommend a simple monthly cleaning routine:
Run an empty hot cycle on your washer.
Add 2 cups of distilled white vinegar directly into the drum.
(Vinegar naturally breaks down buildup and kills bacteria.)
For extra cleaning power, use a washer cleaning tablet instead of vinegar.
Wipe down the rubber gasket, detergent tray, and door after the cycle.
You can trust that every time you do laundry with us, you’re using a machine that’s been thoroughly cleaned. We know a clean washer = cleaner clothes, so we stay ahead of residue and odor by maintaining our equipment regularly.
Bottom line: Whether you’re washing clothes at home or at Willard Wash, keeping your washer clean is one of the easiest ways to get better laundry results. It only takes a few minutes, but the difference it makes is huge.

When it comes to laundry, more isn’t always better — especially when it comes to detergent. It’s a common mistake: you see heavily soiled clothes or a big load and think “a little extra soap will help.” But using too much detergent can actually work against you.
