Don’t Overload the Dryer: Why Less is More

Don’t Overload the Dryer: Why Less is More

It’s tempting to throw as much laundry as possible into the dryer to save time. But overloading can actually do the opposite — costing you more time, money, and wear on your clothes.

At Willard Wash Laundromat, our dryers are serviced daily and designed for efficiency, but even the best machines work better when they’re loaded properly.

Why Overloading is a Problem

  • Longer Drying Times
When the dryer is too full, air can’t circulate properly. This means clothes stay damp and the cycle takes much longer to finish.

  • More Wrinkles
Clothes that are tightly packed together don’t tumble freely, which allows wrinkles to set in more deeply.

  • Extra Wear on Fabrics
Heavy loads rub and twist more aggressively, which can cause fabrics to wear out faster.

  • Higher Energy Use
Because clothes take longer to dry, the machine runs longer, using more electricity or gas.

The Right Way to Load a Dryer

  • Fill the drum about half to three-quarters full so items can tumble freely.

  • For bulky items like towels, comforters, or sheets, give them extra space so they dry evenly.

  • If in doubt, split a large load into two smaller ones — they’ll finish faster overall.

Our Promise at Willard Wash

With our large-capacity dryers, you’ll have all the space you need for big loads, and you can trust that every machine is cleaned and maintained for safe, efficient drying. When you give your laundry a little breathing room, you’ll always get better results.

The bottom line: Don’t overload the dryer. Giving your clothes space helps them dry faster, look fresher, and last longer.
