How Full is Too Full? Avoid This Common Laundry Mistake

How Full is Too Full? Avoid This Common Laundry Mistake

When it comes to laundry, efficiency matters. A full load means fewer washes, less water, and more money saved. But crossing the MAX Fill Line could be costing you more than you think.

At Willard Wash Laundromat, we see it all the time — washers packed to the brim in the hopes of “getting it all done in one shot.” The problem? Overloading doesn’t clean your clothes better. In fact, it can do just the opposite.

💡 What’s the MAX Fill Line?

If you’ve ever used one of our Speed Queen washers, you’ve probably noticed the “MAX Fill Line” marked on the washer glass. This line isn’t just a suggestion — it’s the point where air, water, and detergent can still move freely during the wash cycle.

🧺 Why Overloading Backfires

Stuffing clothes past the MAX Fill Line can cause:

  • Poor cleaning – Clothes need space to move around and agitate.

  • Soap residue – Detergent can’t distribute evenly.

  • Longer dry times – Items come out too wet and clumped.

  • Machine wear and tear – Overloaded drums strain motors and suspension systems.

✅ The Right Way to Load

For best results:

  • Load your items just below the MAX Fill Line.

  • Make sure you can still push your hand down into the drum with some resistance.

  • Separate heavy items (like towels or blankets) from light items when possible.

Save Time by Doing It Right the First Time

A properly filled load doesn’t just protect your clothes and our machines — it also saves you time. You won’t have to rewash items or wait longer at the dryers.

Next time you’re in, check the MAX Fill Line and get the most out of every cycle.
